They are placed in the order of their use from the outside to the inside:The forks are on the left, turned so that the curve is on top
The knives are on the right, the blade towards the plate
The tablespoons on the right outside of meat and fish knives
The cheese knife is placed above the plate, handle to the right, blade towards the plate
The dessert fork is "head to tail" with the cheese knife, handle to the left so
The dessert spoon is also placed above the plate, handle to the right
