Me, candy cane

Milouin invites the new protagonist of your “Me, product” section. A playful text in which a product or a living material is told in the first person in an impertinent, funny and poetic tone. Me, product.

Me, sugar cane, I'm kind of THE supermodel of plants.
Indeed, my dream measurements speak for me: up to six meters high, my wasp waist does not exceed six centimeters in diameter. And like any good self-respecting model, I am known worldwide.

My main producers are Brazil, India and China. I am mainly grown for the sugar that is extracted from my stems. Nowadays, I am no longer the only one to supply sugar, but I remain in the lead with almost 80% of world production.

Tropical plant, I can't stand the cold, but I have an insatiable need for water and sun. So after almost a year of intensive tanning, I am harvested and, quickly, I am brought back most often to a sugar factory where I will be treated so that I can offer all my riches.
But at what cost ?

My stems will be crushed until a liquid is obtained: cane juice or fresh cane juice. And that's where the miracle happens, because from this juice will be born agricultural rum, this cane "eau-de-vie".
After the fermentation and then the distillation of the vesou, you will obtain this alcohol, a must in most of your cocktails but also essential during this winter season when, as soon as the first chills of cold are felt, we will concoct a grog to reinvigorate yourself: a good rum, a little hot water, a squeeze of lemon juice and goodbye to toxins.

It would almost make you want to "cold" it!
